Whatever the weather, it’s always fun to get out and about during your visit. There are so many activities to choose from, whatever your fitness level or interests: walking, road cycling, mountain biking, golf, fishing, and archery to name a few. Or how about trying Grantown-on-Spey’s very own Escape Room, or taking part in a ceramics workshop while you’re here? We’ve put together some itinerary ideas to help you find the right activities to suit you – enjoy!

Spend a lovely half-day or so exploring the High Street’s crafty offerings. A great option for a wet weather day – just remember your umbrella and your wallet! First you’ll want to fuel up at the fabulous High Street Merchants cafe-gallery-bar. Here you can enjoy delicious food, coffee and cake as well as check out the art and craft works on display, carefully curated by owner Eli and available to buy.

Next stop, Ewe & Me. This beautiful, award-winning shop sells a lovely selection of gifts for women, men and children, as well as homeware, stationery and clothing – and a fabulous range of Christmas decorations!

A little further up, you’ll find Highland Artisans, a wee gem of a shop where owner Mandy sells beautiful arts and crafts from all over the Highlands. You’re sure to find gifts and keepsake inspiration in this treasure trove.

Grantown Remakery is a Scottish Charitable Incorporated Organisation that provides work and employment skills through refurbishing, repairing, recycling and reselling used goods – of huge benefit to both our community and the environment. Have a peek inside and see what they’re up to!

The Gift Lounge really is a shop full of beautiful things, reflecting owner Mhairi’s exquisite taste and knowledge of arts and crafts. The window display invites you in to browse a fine selection of cards, jewellery, scarves and so many other gorgeous items made both locally and further afield.

Anyone who’s been watching the Great Pottery Throwdown will definitely have been inspired to give pottery a go, so head to the Spey Bank Studio at top of the High Street. This gallery and shop shows a range of art by artists based in the Cairngorms and runs regular craft classes. Booking is essential so check ahead on their website to see what’s on their schedule during your visit.

You can also make your own souvenirs further down the High Street at Smarty Art. Here you can pick your own piece of ceramic and paint it to your own design to create your own masterpiece to take home.

Cairn Candles has brought amazing scents to the High Street with their shop and workshop making artisanal candles. Passing this corner of the High Street is always a treat as the smells drift out onto the pavement.

And the fashionistas are also catered for, with My Secret Dressing Room offering a host of colourful vintage accessories and clothing. You will not be able to resist a peek at all the beautiful shiny things that owner Barbara has curated.

Or you might want to check out Retrostash for affordable vintage apparel from brands such as Nike, Ralph Lauren and Adidas. You’ll find this wee store off the High Street – just look between Two Thirsty Men and Smarty Art.
