No visit to the Cairngorms National Park is complete without sampling our fine Highland food and drink. Grantown-on-Spey’s cafes and restaurants showcase the best local produce and provide the opportunity for diverse culinary experiences. Nearby whisky and gin distilleries are just waiting to delight you with your new favourite tipple! Here are some ideas for exploring the best of what Grantown-on-Spey has to offer.

Spend the morning learning about life on an authentic Scottish croft. Lynbreck Croft is a 5-mile road cycle or 10-minute drive from Grantown-on-Spey. Lynn and Sandra offer private croft tours of 1 – 4 hours to share their passion for working with nature to produce the best possible food. Hear about how Lynn and Sandra built their business from scratch, walk around the homestead, kitchen garden, polycrub greenhouse/polytunnel hybrid, meet the animals and learn all about trees on this inspirational and educational tour.

After the croft tour head back into Grantown-on-Spey for a spot of lunch. For delicious food combined with an introduction to the work of talented local artists and craftspeople, visit The High St Merchants cafe-gallery-bar. A warm, comfortable welcome awaits, and if you fancy a beer, why not try a pint of locally-brewed Two Thirsty Men Spey IPA?

Relaxed and replete, spend the afternoon exploring Grantown-on-Spey’s thriving High Street. You’ll find a fantastic selection of fresh fruit and vegetables, honeys and jams, chutneys, spices, eggs and wild bird feed at the friendly Grantown Dairy. Fiona’s Wholefoods offers refills of all your store cupboard essentials from spices and rice to pasta and pulses.

If meat’s your thing, don’t miss Grants of Speyside, whose shop is at the company’s factory in the Woodlands Industrial Estate at the south end of the town. This award-winning butcher has an impressive range of products – watch out for their black pudding, which has been awarded two stars in the Great Taste Awards.

And if an afternoon treat is in order, you’ve plenty to choose from at Ashers BakeryMaclean’s Highland Bakery, The Cake Lady and The Candy Coo sweet shop!
