Grantown East – itinerary

The Highland Heritage and Cultural Centre at Grantown East, situated to the east of Grantown-on-Spey, provides a great half-day excursion. From town, walk or cycle along the Old Military Way through the Anagach Woods and over the Old Spey Bridge looking out for the painted stones and ‘lands’ created by residents during the pandemic.

The old Grantown East railway station operated from 1863 to 1968, after which the site fell to ruin. With vision, investment and a lot of work, it’s been re-developed to provide a fantastic place for people to visit, explore and enjoy.

Inside the Heritage Centre, you can watch short videos to learn about topics including The Speyside Railway Line, The Making of the Kilt, An Introduction to Highland Games, and The History of the Clydesdale Horse, and more. Learn about the history of Grantown’s railway, and browse the unique gifts and keepsakes available in the shop.

Visitors young and old will enjoy a ride on the fabulous Revack Mini Railway outside – don’t miss it!

Then relax and dine aboard the unique restaurant made of two converted railway carriages. Here you can enjoy a wood-fired pizza, as well as soups, sandwiches, scones, cakes, with a good selection of drinks, and even puddin’ pizzas. Yum!
